Rome didn't bother hiding her stare as the man with the exo-leg frames entered the locker room. she even raised an eye brow when his eyes scanned over her face as he took the whole thing in. The whole time he was being assisted by the Kibo employees she eyed his gear, trying to figure out where all those mix-matched parts had come from. She had to stop mentally dissecting his hardware once it was carried away and he too to his respective tank. She uncrossed her arms and whipped her head around side to side, suddenly realizing she hadn't seen their steward yet; was he really supposed to reassemble that other man on his own when they landed?
Her heart did a little flipflop in her chest, realizing she'd have the perfect excuse to offer a hand and get a good look at what the other passenger was workin' with. that made her giddy and the corners of her lips tugged upward into a bit of a secret smile. With no other reasons left to delay, the amber eyed woman lowered herself into her own cryostasis tank and fitted her mask over her face nice and snug. She didn't look up, but rather closed her eyes and just focused on breathing.
Every good thing was born through a bit of pain and she didn’t expect this to be any different. She focused on her breathing and kept her eyes closed as she waited.

A redhead brought over a bottle of water and gave it to Varis, which she drank. Puck nodded wordlessly and backed up to give the woman some room. She seemed to be recovering quickly from her fainting spell, and they really did need to get going so once everything appeared back to normal, Robbie excused himself to finish getting dressed.
"Looks like you've got this under control," He said to Varis with a smile. "I'm going to finish up what I was doing and I guess I'll see you on the other side of the stars. Hopefully a good long sleep will do us all some good." With that he went about his business and made his way over to his own personal cryo-coffin. He actually did know how these things worked, and while it had never particularly bothered him before - he'd never been one of the test subjects climbing into one before and now... well now he'd be lying if he said it didn't make him feel uneasy.
What these things did to the body to suspend time was a miracle, but it was also a lot of stress to put on the body. All those test they took ahead of time were supposed to determine if there were any at risk underlying conditions that could cause a negative reaction to the process but you could never know 100% for sure what might go wrong with a patient in cryo before it happened.
that wont be me, that wont be me, that wont be me, he promised himself in his thoughts as he got situated and put on the breathing apparatus. He peered around through the glass barrier of his coffin to the semicircle across from him of others. The thick glass was tinted and the most he was really able to make out was what color suit each one was wearing, whether red.. or blue... Red fish, blue fish, one fish, two fish....
this is fine, Im fine, he continued to think as he waited for the inevitable.

Eden stared at Matthias and his offering, her peripheral vision registering (but wisely ignoring) the commotion around some Pacha female. It's not that she did not want to help...? No, wait, of course she did not want to help. Pacha was the enemy. All of Pacha could die in a fire for all she cared.
Although nothing could bring her family back and revenge against Pacha seemed very self-serving (sadist in the making?) Eden wanted satisfaction and to her, making Pacha suffer the way she suffered, was definitely satisfaction. "Thanks for the sanitizer; looks like my favorite hotel brand."
Eden certainly got around major hotel chains when things on this planet were not so extensively... wrecked. Taking the dainty bottle from Matthias, she unzipped the front of her bodysuit and slipped it into her brassiere, winking at the man as the zipper went back up, immediately.
"Cleavage: nature's own pocket."
Taking a brief look around, she noticed that some people around them had already moved to their cryo-tanks. Suppose it was time for Eden to find her own and get inside it, gauge initial comfort zone and what not. She had never been in one before, so it was only natural that she felt excited and anxious at the same time.
"Time to find our coffins, Daddy Chuck."
A warm flash of pearly whites, a toss of dark auburn waves and she was on her way. Once she found the cryotube with her particulars on it, Eden climbed in and reached for the breathing apparatus which she applied over her face, making sure it conformed well to her nose and mouth. Oddly enough, it fit only too well - nothing to complain about, there! She would then sneak a quick peek left and right to see if the tanks were filling up and patiently waited for some sort of an announcement and/or a countdown, to come online.

There used to be some story about a fat guy who came down people's chimneys once everyone was snug in their beds to deliver presents. Well, no fat guy here, just two Pacha security folk carrying a settler to his pod. [Jax] Both men nodded to the ship's tech that was impatiently waiting and headed back up the ladder and out of the ship. Shortly after a loud hiss sounded as the boarding hatch closed and the boarding tube disconnected. The ship was now on its own oxygen limited oxygen supply. Just enough for the flight crew to get the ship in gear and land. Stuff wasn't cheap after all.
"Alright, breathe deeply everyone." The tech said as he tapped a few keys on his panel and introduced a sedative into the settlers breathing supply. At the same time the pods all began filling up with a slime like liquid almost green in color. Hopefully no one was claustrophobic or had a fear of slowly drowning, but they wouldn't have that much time to dwell on it before the knockout gas kicked in.
After that, everything was relatively went as expected. This was the crew's 7th time making this flight and by now everything was well practiced. There was no room for mistakes and the corps made sure they well knew the repercussions for failure. Sure, they'd all be dead, but their families would bear the burden of their financial faux pas. That much had been explicitly inferred.
----
For the settlers, the next thing they'd experience was a distinct loss of weightlessness as the tubes drained. They'd been floating in the stuff for three weeks, unconscious or not it was something someone would notice.
"Rise and shine," the technician said in a practiced tone as he shut down the stasis systems. "You're going to feel a little groggy, maybe nauseous, and very sticky. Don't worry, it's all natural. When you're ready, head back up the ladder and you'll find a second latch on your locker that opens into a shower chamber. Get cleaned off, get dressed and exit the ship. Representatives will be waiting for you. Welcome to Astreus."
----
The landing facility on Astreus was nothing at all like the one they had left. Upon leaving the ship there was a simple elevator that descended down to a ground level bunker of sorts and left the feeling that this was more a refuel and resupply station rather than a starport. Perhaps it was the one way nature of the whole affair. The only people going back were the crew of the EOS.
Stepping off the ship, the first thing settlers would notice was the lower gravity. Where Earth had a gravity of 1g, Astreus had a gravity of 0.8g. The second thing would probably be the air quality. There were no city sized factories here or and number of other pollutants that humans had created. For those from third world countries the change would be most notable.
Once in the bunker, two doors led from the boarding elevator they had just exited. One marked Aegis, one marked Pacha. Hopefully it was clear enough as to what they should do. There was no fanfare yet, just security escorts in body armor waiting to escort them to their respective transports.
This would be the settlers first glimpse of the planet. The ship had landed in the middle of a long dried up lakebed that had been flattened to accommodate the ship and the railgun launch mechanism. This would also be the first time they would see the actual ship from the outside towering above them.
The entire launch facility was surrounded by a twelve foot steel reinforced wall approximately six feet thick giving the first indication that they weren't in Kansas anymore. The second indication were the transports they would be boarding to take them to their respective settlements. Huge tires, armor, and guns. There were four transports in all, two for Pacha and two for Aegis, and all of them looked well used.
"Alright," said one of the escorts, "Less staring around with mouth agape and more getting onboard one of the vehicles. We've got a lot of ground to cover and no one wants to be out here after dark."
(OOC: Feel free to reply in this thread with your first moment experiences, a new thread will be created in each settlement for Orientation with your respective steward)

She climbed down the edge of one of the large open-cut mines that her father had managed, slowly but securely swinging from one rock ledge to the next, making her way down to the platform just below. It wasn't far below the surface, but it was somewhere Varis enjoyed spending her days off - that was, the days she wasn't sat motionless watching her Pacha educator droll on endlessly about Biological that, Science something else. The metal platform was built into the rock wall, an observation post for the communication around the mine site. With a large sudden leap of faith, she landed feet first on the platform, startling the two workers that were sat there having their lunch.
"You shouldn't be down here Miss," the older one said gruffly, a large scruffy beard obscuring his mouth. Varis smiled, walking over to give him a large cuddle, wrapping her arms around his legs. The older man gave a sigh, "Alright, but if you father asks, you were never here 'lright? Don't fancy losing my job on account of your trespasses young miss."
"You're the best Bill," she chimed in childlike wonder. Bill was always kind to her, despite conditions. Varis sat down near the edge of the platform, her legs dangling off the edge as she stared deep into the artificial chasm that they'd created. They'd once called this place the Super Pit once upon a time - she'd seem the old rusted signs on the road near here, back when it had been 600 mitres deep. Now, the hole seemed endless, with faint lights like ants moving deep deep beneath them.
The other man gave a grunt, "Not safe to let her hang around here Bill. You would have felt the shake last night, the footings aren't secure. We lose at least two people a day - how long are they going to keep throwing bodies into the ground here. Pacha won't stop until they've taken everything from this..."
Bill gave an abrupt noise, moving his head in Varis' direction, as if to remind the other man of her presence, "No harm will come of it. Besides, she barely weighs anything. Last incident was a week ago, and that shake was the processing plant starting up again, you're worrying about nothing. Didn't think they made them quite so yellow around here," Bill moved to the railing, looking down at Varis. She was quietly enjoying the view, and her time with Bill. It was reassuring to spend time with him, given how little she saw her actual father. Home for an hour or so in the evening, before he'd head back out for some emergency or something. "Duke is right, I think this'll have to be the last time little miss. You're getting too big to climb down here, need to be doing that there ah... learning stuff. So you don't have to spend your days working this mine like your pop."
Varis frowned, "But I want to!"
Bill shook his head, picking her up. She felt weightless in his rough and rugged hands. They were covered with red dust, "No you don't. You might think you do, but there's more out there for people like you," he looked out over the mine, "I don't got the smarts you do. You are going places, far away from toxic places like this. You'll see. Aim for the stars, maybe you'll end up in a place much more beau-tiful than this," he winked, swinging her around onto his shoulders. She sat there for a time, before he gave a rough cough, "Time to be getting on."
There was a creak, deep and sharp, it was a sound that Varis would never forget. Pop, crack, bang, the platform underneath them began to shift and move. Duke, the other man, flew off the edge of the platform, screaming as he disappeared deep into the growing chasm. Rocks began to crumble around them, Bill ran to the far side, she followed, crying, not sure what to do.
"Hang on kid!"
Then the platform started to fall.______ There was a sudden drop, and she hit the ground. Opening her eyes, she found herself in the pod, the technical coming through to let them know it was time to get... assembled. She gave a deep breath, as if she'd been holding her breath for the last three weeks. She forced the mask off her face, pushing herself against the wall of her pod. The same dream, hour after hour, always finishing the same way. The platform falling, and the weightlessness as they began to fall. She'd seen that part so much that she couldn't even remember how it ended. However, the technician said there might be nausea. She rubbed her sticky, oily skin, trying to get as much of it out of her hair as possible, but she didn't feel sick. She felt great actually, better than she had in -- oh, there was the nausea. Once she was able to pry herself from the bottom of her pod, she went almost in a trance, to wash the goop off her skin. A nice long shower, washing her hair with the chemicals at least twice, before it began to feel even remotely human. The smell wouldn't go, but that was life. It was cold in the ship, so she got dressed as quickly as possible, packing anything that she had left into a backpack, flinging it around her shoulder. Stepping off the ship felt a little... bizarre, her movements felt a little more exaggerated, she felt as though was leaping every time she took a step. And the air felt... wrong. There wasn't the distant smell of smog, the toxic taste of red dust or human. If this was clean, then it felt wrong. Sickly even. Once she walked into the bunker, she took a look around, for Xahra. Would have been nice to see her one more time, to say goodbye, but either the woman had long since departed down the Aegis ramp or she hadn't emerged yet. No point waiting.

It felt a helluva lot more awkward than Dain had been expecting from the talks the scientists had given them prior to this whole thing. The rebreather they set them up with felt weird against his face, but it was a necessary itch for the trip. He had jokingly suggested just hooking up his own filtration mask to their system instead but that idea had been shot down faster than a jacked car by robocops.
As for the really awkward part, apart from the whole getting changed into the skin tight bodysuit thing, Dain basically had to brace himself against the walls of his tub-pod until the cryo-hibernation liquid stuff had filled up enough to allow him to float.
As the system began to put him to sleep, he couldn't help but give everyone a little wave because... well, you never know do you? The corps may have total confidence in this hibernation sleep trip thing of theirs, but a part of the Scotsmans brain couldn't help but go over all the various possibilities of what could go wrong. One notion is that the system woke him up early and he was stuck on a ship with no food or water for a while because... well he very much doubted that the stuff they were swimming in was safe to drink. At all.
Dain closed his eyes and then blinked as he opened them again, watching as people were starting to come out of their pods. Did something go wrong? He'd only closed his eyes for the hibernation portion of the trip for a moment... The water slowly drained out from his pod and as he tried to brace himself, his arms wouldn't work properly for some reason. They felt heavy and sluggish...
His legs definitely didn't appreciate the lack of support as he basically crumpled to the floor of his pod, his head banging against the glass exterior in the process. He rubbed his head as the door opened up and removed the mask and its tube, working his jaw and found that it was aching a bit.
"That... was the quickest nap Ah've ever taken..." he remarked, before immediately emptying the contents of his stomach as a huge wave of nausea hit him. "Urgh... sorry bout that..." said Dain, wiping his mouth clean with the sleeve of his arm. Just glad that the docs hadn't said that he'd be exploding from both ends... Now came the tricky part. He had to get himself over to the showers and get cleaned off, strip off the bodysuit and get his own clothes back on and then get his "legs" back on him.
As Dain began to try and hoist himself up so that he wasn't just a crumpled body on the floor of his pod, there was definitely something off. He was pulling himself to a pseudo standing position with far more ease than he had before. He felt... stronger? No wait, that wasn't right... No, what he felt was lighter.
But that was a mystery to solve later. Right now he let the technicians help get over to the shower unit and work on getting all the remaining gunk off of him before stripping out of the bodysuit and getting back into his actual clothes. Now came the part where he had to reconnect his exo-frame to himself.
He just hoped all the jostling through space and stuff hadn't made any of the wires come loose... Which upon inspection of his device when the techs brought it over to him was confirmed. "Ah fer fraks sake... Right, let's see if we cannae fix this bloody thing..." he said, mumbling to himself as he began to fix and reassemble the exo-frame from the collection of random parts and wires and strings and motors that it was.

Rome fell face-first and pignosed against the glass as her pod drained out... or at least thats what she would have done if not for the mask that took the brunt of the fall for her face. She opened her eyes slowly, brain foggy and hazy just for a few moments before her primary concern became all that gear she'd insisted on bringing. Was her cargo alright? She heard the coms telling them where to go and how to get the hell off this space craft and she felt eager to inventory all her things before they flew off with her stuff still onboard.
She stumbled out of her coffin with shaky legs but quickly got her land-legs back as she strutted forward, she didn't get far before the crewmen redirected her goopy butt back toward the locker room showers. "I NEED to make sure all my tools are offloa--"
"Trust me, ma'am, nobody on the return flight wants the extra weight. We'll be sure to dump everything with the settlement escorts." Dump?... dump!?... she didn't like his tone but it didn't matter because she was back in the locker room now and the astronaut was gone from view in a flash. Now she had the presence of mind to notice the absolute ickiness of the substance clinging to and permeating from her body. Gross.
She triggered the latch thingy and ducked through to the shower, soaping up really meticulously and taking her time just to make sure they really did use theirs to offload her gear. Once she was certain she'd removed the cryo liquid from every pore, she dried off and redressed, her thick wavy mane of brunette locks appearing curlier than usual due to their damp state.
Cutting back through the locker room for the exit, she overheard the man lamenting over his gear, and that reminded her about the exo-frame and the fella who wore it. She turned around and lo-and-behold, it was him. Nice accent, she thought but didn't say out-loud. Rome quietly approached and peered down over his shoulder at all the fuss before reaching into the pocket of her fresh clothes and pulling out the multi-purpose pocket tool she'd been fidgeting with back on the pier in Kibo.
Wordlessly she extended her hand passed the left side of his head into his peripheral view and offered the item. Sure looked like he could use it.

Xahra woke with a start as if roused suddenly from a bad dream, she could feel her pulse racing and her heart pounding in her ears. Was this part of coming out of stasis? She had no idea. She tried to control her breathing but there was a damned mask in her face. Where did that come from? She tried to push her thoughts into order, to remember where she was and what she was doing. She went to reach up to remove the mask and her veins went cold like someone had just injected her with ice water.
A voice was speaking in the background, but she wasn't paying attention. Fear wash over her, wave up on wave. She couldn't move her arms. The cybernetics were not responding to her neural commands and just hung there like metal anchors permanently affixed to her elbows. Questions raced through her mind starting with her immediate situation and progressed further out. How would she get out of this pod, how would she climb the ladder, how would she get dressed, how would she do her job or even survive this planet? Would Aegis fix her cyberware or toss her aside? She'd heard rumors about outcasts being exiled from the settlements to fend for themselves. Was this how it started?
The fear an anxiety was dragging her down and for a moment she was back in the Silver Snakes headquarters at 23, waking up to the memory that the Red Hand had cut off her lower arms at the joint. She'd been afraid then too, afraid the syndicate would toss her back out on the street, but she'd also felt resolve to push through it all, and she'd had the credits to replace what those bastards had taken from her. At least the exterior scars anyway.
The ships stasis technician must have sensed her terror, or his sensors had, and his voice pulled her back to reality, "Let me help you with that," he said, removing her breathing apparatus.
She almost collapsed after that, but the technician caught her, at the risk of getting his own spacers uniform covered in the jelly like goop that still clung to her outfit and skin. "I can't feel my arms." she said rather dumbly. Of course she couldn't feel them, they weren't there, but he knew what she meant.
"It's ok," he said, guiding her out of the pod and over to his workstation chair. She sat down, staring at the useless hunks of metal and plastic. "Do you mind?" he said, holding a cable in front of her eyes.
"No, go ahead," she responded, letting him connect the cable to the data port on her neck. She hoped he knew what he was doing, otherwise, would she simply be dragged up the ladder like the man she'd seen with the exoframe?
"It's going to be ok, I've seen this before." he stated calmly causing her to look up at him for reassurance. He tapped a few commands into the console and nodded to himself, "you have an older series geotracker. It's trying to figure out your global position, but since this isn't Earth it's just flooding your system with noise. Too much garbage for your neural link to get through to your cybernetics."
She had no idea what he was saying, she wasn't a technician, she just expected things to do what she told them, and they usually did. "And?" she responded, hoping he was going to give her a quick fix.
"I'm going to disable your geotracker, which means no mapping overlay or target tracking. Once you get to the settlement you'll need a full software update and a download of the Asterus mapping data they've gathered so far." He tapped a few more keys and nodded to himself, unplugging the data cable. "Go ahead and reboot your systems and run a diagnostic."
She did as instructed, her vision going dark as all her artificial components began to cycle. Once she could see again she ran the diagnostic, ensuring that the geotracker showed offline. Everything else came back green and she took a deep breath and tried to move her ams, they responded. She almost felt lightheaded as the fear drained out of her and she was flooded with relief. "Thanks," she mustered, trying to be nonchalant about the whole thing. She could have jumped for joy or kissed him, but she restrained herself, as she usually did.
'Don't worry about it." he said before moving off to check on the other passengers.
After that, everything was rather uneventful. She took a shower, got changed, gathered up her belongings and headed for the rally point. She took a moment to look for Varis but the girl was already gone thanks to Xahra's little cybernetic meltdown. She wasn't entirely sure why she cared, but some part of her couldn't help but be disappointed.
'Oh well,' she thought, 'onward to bigger and better things.'

Dain grumbled a bit as he rummaged through his coat as he tried to figure out where the hell the damned technicians had put his tools, when a hand holding a holy grail came over his shoulder. He looked at the device in the rather pretty ladies hand for a moment before hesitantly accepting it. "Eh, thanks Miss. Buggers seem to 'ave shifted mah tools when they stowed mah gear... Ach where are mah manners? Mah mum would kill me... Mah name's Dain." he sheepishly began whilst inspecting the multi-tool in his temporary possession. "How do ye... aha there ye go." Dain mused as he figured out how to make the device prompt out the various screwdrivers etc stored away within.
With the borrowed device in hand, he quickly began to set to work adjusting wire placements, realigning the various motors, screws, bolts and other sundry components of his exo-frame. All the while he was doing this he was also fitting it back around his legs and commenting on the state of each part. "That frame rod's alright fer now, but Ah figure it'll need replacin' in aboot... two weeks, give or take on what the humidity's like 'ere." Dain stated, partially to himself and partially to his unintended audience.
"Course Ah wonder what the metals 'ere on Astreus are like, analogue wise... Assuming we are on Astreus. Seriously, Ah blinked and we're 'ere already?" he mused and chuckled, shaking his head before offering the multi-tool back to the helpful lady. "Cheers again fer that Miss... now comes mah least favourite part..." Dain stated, finding a strip of leather in his jacket pocket and placing it between his teeth.
In one hand, attached to what could be called the "belt" for the exo-frame was a neural link port of some description. It looked about as ramshackle and cobbled together as the rest of the literal junk heap of parts that made up the exo-frame. Lifting up his shirt with the other hand, could maybe be seen an entry slot for the neural link port just above the base of his spine.
Dain took in a few deep breaths before quickly jamming the two together, a pained hissing of air and muted cry of pain erupting from his throat as the device began to link up with his nervous system. Across the length of the frame could be seen a series of sparks going off here and there, some of them travelling across certain wires to some kind of small discs that then discharged into Dain's actual legs.
The Scotsman bit into the leather hard, panting for a minute before he slowly got to his feet, the exo-frame once again fully functional. He took the leather and put it back into the sleeve of his jacket, working his jaw and giving his legs a few test steps before nodding to himself.
"That's everythin' workin' fine noo. Cheers again Miss fer the loan o' yer holy grail." he said, giving a bow of his head. "Noo then... Time to see a whole new world aye?" Dain remarked, setting off for the exit of the ship, and the entrance to a whole new life.

Rome stayed a little closer over his shoulder than she probably should have but sue a girl.. she was curious!
“Names Rome,” she quipped, as equally distracted by his tinkering as he was and in no way offended by his manners. When he commented about the shelf life of his parts give or take the humidity, she nodded her concurrence. The remark about alien metals got a more animated reaction out of her, even if the only vocal utterance was an “mhmm’
when he took the leather between his teeth to link up in the most barbaric way she flinched. ‘What did... why?!” She exclaimed seeing the ill fitted nuerolink port at the base of his spine. ‘These parts don’t go together, wrong model by decades,” she complained, forgetting her own manners and invading his personal space without invitation.
she seized the shirt from his hands and hiked the fabric up higher... bringing her face within inches of the retro fitting. “I can fix this...” she muttered to herself, though it probably sounded like she was talking to him. “I think I have all the equipment I need in my .... luggage... just have to - to - to make sure that it gets off this rocket with us...” she slowed her speech as their current location and lack of official introduction caught up to the rest of her brain.
She blushed as the man finished syncing internally and announced everything was working fine.
”well... see you on foreign soil, then, Dain.” And excused herself quickly to check on her things and ensure they made it on the transport.
