OPEN TO ALL- Dr. Robert Puck Jax Varis Allaria
Puck had just woken up after his first real night of sleep in this atrium they called a settlement. Ever since they arrived they'd been shuffled through one segment of orientation after another, brief (but delicious) meals, and more lectures on their new lives, new home, new jobs. His favorite part so far...? Probably the food if he were being honest. His least favorite part was always being inside what felt like a giant fish bowl. Whether they were working in the lab, tending the gardens, carousing the library, greasing gears and torquing wrenches in the hangar bay, or simply heading "home" for a shower and some sleep... they were either inside a monstrous dome with tinted impenetrable glass; or transitioning to one through a test tube looking alleyway between domes. And thats assuming you were 'top side' of the base. There were levels upon levels of subterranean conduits and bunkers.
It hadn't even been a week yet, but this outdoorsman was itching to get out doors. He wanted to feel the breeze, smell the clean, tangy air, and feel the sun on his skin without the sepia tinted glass.
Just as he was thinking about it; the ambient glow of color around him began to change. He looked up at the mile high domed structure overhead and watched as the radiant light seeping through grew more saturated and distinctly more purple in hue.
"What is-" he started to ask outloud when the sound of sirens blared in every corner of the settlement. "I don't remember any mention of this in orientation," he murmured as he turned around slowly and took in the sky as far as his eye could see.
There was a swirling vortext
and then another
and another...
and they all flashed neon purple at the center. Light leaks of neon purple spread out in the foggy cloud cover - like streaks of liquid being absorbed into cotton and bleeding further from the source.
People began rushing past Puck and heading for the exit.
Not sure where everyone was going, Puck followed the crowd and listened to the excited voices as everyone rushed toward the centralize dome. The "Town Square" as it were. yea. a square dome sure sounded funny to him, and he'd chucked the first time the thought had crossed his mind.
"Who will they send this time?"
"Did you hear what happened to the last team?"
"That's just a rumor"
"No it's true, they moved the whole team up to the super secret compartments, Jester even moved into one of the apartments they vacated."
"Even if it is true, is it really worth the risk?"
Puck wasn't sure what they were talking about, but one thing was for sure.... the square was overwhelmed by the time he had arrived. He hadn't seen this many people in one place since he left Earth. The steward was standing in the middle on a platform used for official business and live performances during recreational hours.
"The anomaly is back" Myth said and her voice was projected loudly over the crowd by some unseen amplifier. "And we need to catch it before Aegis does."
