OPEN TO ALL- The towers of steel and glass that make up the main buildings of Aegis Corp seem to tower above you, almost touching the heavens themselves as you walk up to the front of the building. Inside those doors is likely another world, but the armored and armed guards outside seem to stream, violence is not optional to us. The Aegis Arcology is open to those who work and live there, but for everyone else, it might as well be another country.
For those looking to apply for the settlement program, a row of small dressing room sized rooms have been set up along the walkway to the main building. Each unit has a secured door and a terminal built into the wall. Walking up to a room displays the Aegis logo, followed by the following message:
"Welcome to the Settlement Program Application Station. By pressing accept you agree that Aegis Corp is not liable for any adverse actions taken while inside the application station. Aegis also reserves ownership of your application and any use of your likeness in future commercial endeavors. Once you accept these terms the doors will open and will have ten minutes to present your case as to why you should be accepted into the settlement Program. Please include your name and which job you are applying for in the application process. Best of Luck."
Upon pressing accept, you can feel a small prick as a DNA sample is taken for identification, before the door opens. Inside the tiny room is a screen and a camera. On the screen is a countdown timer from 30, giving you time to ready yourself to present your case. When the timer hits zero a light comes on to illuminate your face and recording shows on the screen.

Xahra didn't have to worry about having her DNA taken as she let her synthetic finger slip across the accept button. Not that it mattered, she was already owned by Aegis and the camera inside was sure to use facial recognition to identify her. She stepped inside the claustrophobic little booth and crossed her arms as the door closed behind her. She tapped her booted foot impatiently as she waited for the light to come on and her cue to begin. It was more than a little ridiculous that she couldn't simply go to someone within the company, but Aegis demanded that everyone be treated on an equal footing when being chosen for the settlement program. Whatever that meant. There was no equal footing when dealing with megacorps. She just needed to do this and get the hell off the planet and away form Tallen Tech.
The light snapped on, and she gave it a sardonic half smirk. "Why should I be selected into the Aegis Settlement? Because your new utopia needs people who can do what I can. You may not know me personally but my record with the company speaks for itself. You need something procured, I'm the one who gets it, no matter who or what is in my way. No difference on an alien planet. Your scientists need a specimen secured? No problem. Whether it bite's, scratches, claws or mauls, I'll get it for you. Maybe a little worse for ware."
She paused to brush a loose strand of hair from her face, "I've got the skills and the hardware to back it up," she lifted her sleeve briefly showing off the unmistakable synthskin of high rate cybernetics. Some people liked the flashier chrome look, thought it made them more badass, but to her, it just screamed of a cheap hack job. Second hand chrome pulled from some corpse most likely.
"Maybe you need something or someone extracted from Pacha territory? I've got you covered. I'm ready to do my part, and I've got no ties to Earth to hold me back. One way trip or not you've got my loyalty and my particular set of skills to help settle the unknown." She smiled and flicked the panel on the wall to end recording and send the "audition." Of course she wouldn't leave it to chance. There were certain strings she could pull to get her higher up on the list, whatever it took. That was her motto these days.

The rain was starting to come down at the Aegis Arcology as Matthias made his way through the throng of employees. He had a destination in mind as he pulled his hood up to protect his head. He was making his way towards the application stations for the Settlement program. He was sick and tired of this planet, and he wanted off of it. He had given the better part of his life to the corporation, and he figured it was owed to him.
Coming up to one of the little booth things, he made for the first booth in line, but was cut off by an immaculately dressed young woman that just seemed to ooze a 'daddy's little princess' attitude. She didn't even look his way as she basically hip checked him out of the way to get to the first one in line. He just looked at her, his cybernetic eyes glowing in the shadow of his hood. He quickly fantasized about opening up his forearm blades and cutting her to shreds, but closed his eyes, forcing the image away. Don't sweat the small stuff Matt. And everything is small stuff. He repeated it over and over in his head until he calmed down. Proceeding to the next booth in line, he clambered inside and took a seat. The usual welcome message starting playing, but he cut it off. "Cut the dung. I don't need to hear the usual legal garbage."
As the system recognized his voice print, a more synthetic voice came over the speaker. "Jayne, Matthias. Corporate Security, Employee ID#8675309. State your purpose." The corporate system skipped straight to the point. So did Matthias.
"I've killed for Aegis for almost two decades. I've murdered men, women, and children and never once hesitated. I let you alter my body to make it a more efficient weapon, and never once asked the Corporation for anything. Now, I'm asking. I want off this rock. I'm done with it. Send me to Astreus. You need security up on that rock, don't you? Who better to send than me?"
Matthias just leaned back, his hood still up and his glowing blue cybernetic eyes visible from within his hood. He had checked the list of what positions needed to be filled, and he fit the bill perfectly for a mercenary. Time to see if all the years of towing the company line would pay off.

"Happy birthday to me," Rome muttered under her breath as she reached the small walkway of settlement application booths. Is this what voting feels like? She thought as she slipped into the small dressing room sized closet. The machine said its piece like a well rehearsed speech, which well, it was. or maybe Script was more like it. Either way she accepted the terms and got her prick on the finger which surprised her but didn't exactly hurt.
The screen and camera came into view and she stepped up to them with her own speech ready at the forefront of her thoughts. She took a deep breath, smiled pleasantly, and began.
"My name is Rome, Rome Betzner. I run an Advanced Mechanics repair shop outside of town and fix every kind of whatzit and whatnot those people can't afford to replace or upgrade. I've seen every variety of your tech over the years and you'd be surprised to see what kind of tinkering I'm capable of to extend the shelf life of things that had no right not to be dead. Your corporation trained me from early childhood in your Manual Tech Promising Youth Program, and advanced me from there to the specialized education track. I'm one of your former top graduates, and while it's been quite a few years since then, I've used the time wisely and kept up to snuff on every new rollout that hits your shelves. You need someone like that, someone like me on the other side of the big bad blue to keep things running on a planet with very little infrastructure. I think you need me, so help me help you - and put me in your program. Rome Betzner. Los Angeles, Lower LAX District. 3rd Complex."
She smiled again, and unsure whether to wave say goodbye or simply walk away she settled for something a little more tried and true. She said "Thank you," and let herself out and headed back to her repair shop to dredge onward - where she would wait to hear if she was selected or not.

Aegis... Arcology. What devil dragged her toward the building, Eden did not know nor did she care. The fact is, it was her ticket out of misery that was her current circumstances. They were shared by multitudes, of course - but Eden only saw herself as the perennial victim. On the outside, however, she projected the walking avatar of elegance and grace, having donned her last working pair of mauve stilettos that guided her hip-swinging strides. Oh, if only anyone was actually watching... ----------------------
Along the main walkway... Dressing rooms, meh. She was not fooled by this attempt to herd desperate masses into some semblance of organized chaos. Eden considered bypassing the throng of cubicles for one that was closest to the actual entrance - until she glimpsed some male specimen attempting to claim the first booth in line. Not a chance. Her instinct of always getting something others wanted kicked in, and she made a bold move to not only intercept the man but cut him off, as well. As she weaved her svelte frame between him and the door leading within, Eden's hip made brief contact with the stranger's. There was a moment of selfish disappointment when the action drew no reprisal - almost as if she yearned for a confrontation? Then, seeing that the man settled for another booth, Eden walked up to the front of the terminal in the wall and and listened to the welcome message. More petty talk... Finally, when prompted, she would type up her particulars with those perfectly manicured hands: Pressing [Accept] Eden knew that the machine would have her particulars on file - her and her family's. She bit her lower lip as the machine pricked her finger for verification of identity - and then she heard the door hiss open. Entering the booth, she took her ease in front of the screen. As the countdown began, it was finally Eden's turn to sell herself. Straightening in her seat, Eden crossed her legs and flashed a smile that revealed two rows of perfectly maintained teeth. Green eyes blinked before she opened with an invitation. Moss-green eyes flashed with fanatical conviction, a perilous tempest brewing within. Only time would tell whether she would get the chance to unleash it... or not.

Well it hadn't been the most comfortable of trips, and definitely surprised the cargo inspectors on the other side... but he was here now. Wherever here was. A quick scan of a nearby terminal told Dain that he was at the Aegis Arcology?! Well, at least now he knew who he'd be dealing with. He took in a breath through his filtration mask before making his way towards and eventually inside the main structure. Inside was a absolute bedlam as people tried to get into one of various booths which seemed to be where you went ahead and submitted an application for the Astreus program.
The brunette rubbed the back of his head and sighed, before he slowly made his way towards a nearby booth. It began to play some kind of welcome message and followed up with a set of instructions about the application process itself. From what Dain could understand of the man's drawl anyway. After it pricked his finger, he managed to get himself into the cubicle booth finding himself looking at a screen. He opted to stand rather than take the offered seat, but did squat at first so that his face was in view of the camera.
When the count down finished, Dain gave a small salute to the camera before removing his filtration mask briefly so that the synthesiser inside didn't screw with the audition. He had left it on on purpose rather than remove it during the count down so that Aegis knew exactly what they were in for with him from the start. "Hi there. Mah name is Dain and Ah've just arrived from the United Kingdom, Scotland to be precise. Hence mah charmin' brogue." he said with a wink. "When Ah was a wee lad, a virus took mah legs from me. Folks couldnae afford any synths or chems to fix me up... so Ah did the next best thing."
He stood up and lifted one leg up onto the chair so that it would be visible for the camera. "Ah worked and built mah own exo-frame, learnin' from guides on the net, cobbled together from scrap and spare parts me and mah mates could scrounge up. Now Ah can move on mah own power, and it seems Aegis could use that kinda mechanical talent and engineerin' skill up on Astreus. A whole new world, so far away and distant from resupplies... if somethin' breaks down or a new thing's needin' made to cope with whatever's up there... Well, they cannae exactly phone home for the stuff and get it next day delivery can they?" Dain asked rhetorically.
"So, Ah'm 'ere to offer mah services as an engineer or a mechanic, whichever yer needin' more of. Ah'll even let ye inspect mah work in person to check mah credentials if ye prefer. Talk is free after all, skill and work is more evident." he finished up, before starting to cough and replaced the filtration mask over his lower face, vastly improving his breathing. "And 'ere's hopin' the air on Astreus is a helluva damn sight cleaner than it is down 'ere on Earth." Dain chuckled before finishing with another small salute and ending his time in the booth.
Now came the hard part... waiting... And finding somewhere to do the waiting.
