- Script and Lit RP styles welcome.
We do request that players make an effort to use full sentences and proper spelling. Avoid using txt type and acronyms whenever possible. The forums has a shoutbox at the bottom of every page for players to interact. Occasionally the shoutbox can lag, to reset it just click the refresh arrows in the bottom right corner. Additionally we have a discord channel open to all our members.
- Tagging threads:
The first post of every thread should be "tagged" at the top with "OPEN TO..." followed by either
A) all
B) specific member names
C) a number (indicating how many players you are welcoming to join at random)
- Age is just a number.
We believe that members should be accepted based on their ability to write and play believable characters. As such, there is no defined age requirement to join Astreus but do not lie to us about your age. Your application and initial RP's will speak for your maturity level and ability to fit in. If this is your first RP group, just read and follow the rules, and remember the mods are here to help you. Please note, in order to get assigned to a settlement on Astreus, all player characters are required to meet or exceed the minimum legal adult age (18).
- Can I use a face claim, a commission of my character, or do I need to draw my own?
Short answer: Yes. We will allow the use of celebrity, model, athlete, etc face claims, but do not use iStock and Shutterstock photos unless you paid for them. If this becomes an issue we reserve the right to amend this rule in the future. The use of art commissions is allowed as long as you can provide a link to the original artists work so we can verify the artwork is in fact your original character. We encourage the use of your own artwork, even if you use bases to draw, or stock images to create photomanipulations for your characters.
Please note: all face claims need to first consult the Bulletin Board and then be listed in your signature (see mine for example.) All photomanipulations must give proper credits to the stock/photo resources, whether used as avatars or submitted to the group related art board. If you are using a manip for your avatar, we ask that you please put your stock credits in your signature.
- Some Astreus themes can be dark;
The potential for murder, blood, gore, etc exist. We aim to keep the content PG15, occasionally content a bit more mature may bleed through (pun intended).
- Caution smut or overly sexual content
Flirting, snogging, shipping etc is acceptable but if your roleplay is heading toward detailed accounts of intimacy then we ask that you take it to private conversation (i.e. Notes, skype, msn, discord dm etc. ) and take the initiative to confirm you're both consenting adults before proceeding. Astreus and its moderators are not responsible for RP content that takes place outside of the boards. If you engage another player outside of the boards, the responsibility for your content remains with you.
- Be respectful and friendly.
This is a group where people don't want to have to deal with real-life drama on a regular basis. If you don't get along with someone, do not join threads with them. Do no publicly air grievances of each other, if there is an issue that needs mediation to resolve, consult the admin team. Also, listen to the mods, if you don't listen you will be warned, and if you still don't listen then you will be kicked and banned.
- Do not GOD MOD.
It is frustrating and ruins everyone's fun. The mods may sometimes use it to get a plot going, but we will never use it at any other time or in a normal roleplay. If you are not familiar with god modding, it is the act of controlling another person's character, actions, or having techniques or attacks succeed without giving their opponent a chance to respond. Unless the other person gives you permission to do so, you can not control another character.
- No MARY SUES/GARY STUS.
The Corporations will go through each application thoroughly before accepting anyway, So if your character could use some tweaking they will let you know you. If you’re unsure what a Mary Sue is, they’re usually characterized by unprecedented skill in everything from art to zoology, including karate and arm-wrestling, typically at an unbelievably young age. This character can also be found narrating his/her way into the good graces/heart/mind of everyone powerful or desirable in any given story.
- Do Not METAGAME:
Metagaming is the use of out-of-character information or resources to affect one's in-character decisions. While you may be aware of something your opponent is doing, your character is not. Using knowledge such as the fact your character cannot be injured, maimed or killed without your express permission to play your character in an unrealistic way is a form of Meta Gaming and is not permitted.
- If its not broke don't fix it.
But if there is some rule breakage, notify an admin! The mods are very friendly and are always here to listen, if you're unsure about something, drop the group a note or note me personally.
- We ask those who join this group to be active.
Adulting will always come first (damn you IRL) but if you know in advance that you are going to be leaving us for a while (for Studies, Holidays, Etc.) we ask that you please let your settlement steward know as a curtesy.
- Understanding liquid time.
Which happened first, The chicken or the Egg? Liquid time allows writers to post their characters in several threads at once by saying that each consecutive story either happened before or after the other. Generally speaking, the thread that was created first happened first, but on occasion you may want to pinpoint exactly when two or more active posters are jumping into a thread together just to ensure timelines aren't getting crossed for all parties involved. Liquid Time should not be used to push time forward beyond a day or two.
